Experimental Methods
Objective: Use the concepts learned in class to automate the measurement system in a centrifugal pump experiment.
System description:
It is desired to measure the performance of a centrifugal pump using the sensors studied in the class, LabView for data processing, displaying the results in real time and storing them in a file. Figure 1 below shows the experimental design of the apparatus used for the experiment; which consists of a tank filled with water, the pump with motor, pump suction and discharge pipes.
It is proposed to use pressure sensors to measure the pressure at points E and F of the equipment (inlet and outlet of the pump, ΔP=Pout-Pin) and an FTB9XX sensor with the FLSC-62A at point D, to measure the volumetric flow rate Q through the pump. In addition to that, a torque measurement sensor is needed and another to measure the rpm at which the engine rotates.
Prepare a program in LabView that captures the signal from the sensors and calculates the power supplied to the fluid with the formula: Pf =ρgQΔP, where ρ is the density of water equal to 62.4 lbm/ft3, g is the acceleration of the gravity, Q y ΔP are the flow and pressure differential measured by the sensors.
It is also proposed to change the torque meter (at point G) for one that can enter the information into LabVIEW. Suggest an appropriate meter for this experiment and how it should be configured. Use the values measured similarly in previous semesters and shown below as a guide. Due to the low torque variation, the sensor must have good sensitivity in the range of values displayed. Also use as a reference the ranges of values recommended by the manufacturer of the equipment.
Note: You need to perform in LabView Software.
