Question: Evidence based practice encourages and, in some cases, forces scientists and other professionals to pay more attention to evidence when making crucial decisions (Jadad, Carroll, 2013). A significant part of evidence-based practice is the levels of evidence or hierarchy of evidence in research. Level 1 includes at least one random controlled trial (RCT) with proper randomization (Concato, Shah, 2019). Level 2 includes evidence obtained from at least one well designed RCT. Level 3 includes evidence obtained from well designed controlled trials without randomization. Level 4 includes evidence from a well designed case control or cohort study. Level 5 includes evidence from systemic reviews of descriptive and qualitative studies. Level 6 includes evidence from a single descriptive or qualitative study. Level 7 includes evidence from the opinion of authorities and reports of expert committee.

As you move up the levels, you will find higher quality of evidence, but less research available. The level of evidence in research is a method of raking the relative strength or validity of results coming from scientific studies(Jadad, Carroll, 2013). In the past, there have been multiple proposals for assessing levels of evidence in research.
