Each summer along the Oregon coast there is a contest for archers. People line the beaches and wait for a low-flying airplane to pass overhead loaded with goodies. When the plane is directly over the water's edge, it drops boxes of prizes and the first person who is able to land an arrow in a box wins whatever is inside. The plane flies 250 m overhead and drops the crate when it is directly overhead, flying 70 m/s guaranteed. All the winner has to do is hit the crate!
But you have a secret weapon! One of your newest tools is a laser gun, which shoots intense laser beams instead of arrows or bullets. So all you have to figure out is where to aim it and you're sure to be a winner. In fact, you are so confident that you brag to the entire group of contestants that you will hit the crate exactly 2 seconds after it is dropped.
A. At what angle should you aim the laser gun in order to hit the crate at exactly 2 seconds?
B. How fast will it be moving when you hit it?
C. If the crate were to fall into the water without being hit, how far (horizontally) from its release point would it strike the water?
D. How far would the crate travel (horizontally), if it were dropped from a height of 125 m instead?
