In a machining operation, an 8 minute tool life was achieved at a cutting speed of 500 fpm. At a cutting speed of 250 fpm the tool life was 24 minutes. Determine the speed at a tool life of 16 minutes using Taylor's tool life equation. Is the trend of tool life with respect to speed linear? Why?
