In 1997, Frequent Flyer Magazine reported that 71% of frequent fliers surveyed complained that they had difficulty getting upgrades when requested. In January of 1998, American Airlines created the AAdvantage Executive Platinum Program for frequent flier passengers that fly at least 100,000 miles per year. American was trying to reward their best and highest paying customers. One advantage of being a platinum member is that they can reserve an upgrade to first class 100 hours before their flight, while regular AAdvantage members must wait until 72 hours before their flight to upgrade to first class. One year after implementing the new Executive Platinum Program, American surveyed 200 of its frequent fliers, 125 frequent fliers complained that they had difficulty in obtaining first class upgrades.
At a .05 level of significance, does the data from the survey show that the percentage of frequent fliers who have had difficulty in upgrading to first class is now less than 71%?
