A horizontal pipe has an abrupt expansion from D1 = 8 cm to D2 = 16 cm. The water velocity in the smaller section is 10 m/s and the flow is assumed to be turbulent. (Verify this assumption by calculating the Reynolds Number in the smaller section. Assume the water temperature is 25oC.) The pressure in the smaller section is P1=300 kPa. Calculate the downstream pressure, P2, and estimate the error that would have occurred if Bernoulli's equation had been used (headloss is not accounted for in Bernoulli's equation). There are no major head losses because you determining the effect of the expansion joint.1
