You have two metal specimens both of which are cylindrical with a diameter of 20 mm and a length of 200 mm. One is made of titanium alloy with Young's modulus 100 GPa and the other out of stainless steel Young's modulus 200 GPa. Both are subjected to a tensile force of 500 N. Which will have the higher stress and what are the stresses? Which will develop the higher strain and what are the strains (assuming deformations are within linear elastic range)? Given this information can you tell which material will be stronger?
