Horizontal stresses are estimated for a rock formation field in the Gulf of Mexico in depth of 5,000 ft. as 6 ksi. It is estimated that the rock formation density changes linearly, from 65 near ground surface to 135 at 5,000 ft depth. Assuming Biot's constant as 0.98 and Poisson's ratio as 0.25, using Avasthi equations calculate overburden stress and pore pressure gradient for this field.
