Assignment Topic: Application of Data Mining in Education

Part 1 - Based on your selected ECA topic (please include selected topic on your cover page), submit the following:

(a) Draft one (1) paragraph for the Introduction section and two (2) paragraphs for Literature Review section of your ECA. Include at least one (1) citation applying the correct APA format for both the Introduction or Literature Review sections. Ensure that the sentences in your paragraphs are grammatically correct and the discussion of ideas flow from one sentence to the next.

(b) Search for a minimum of three (3) relevant references for your Literature Review section and list them in a Reference section implementing the correct APA format.

Part 2 - The report must include the following sections:

Introduction: Discuss the purpose, background, general concepts and trends related to the chosen topic. Include definition of terms used (e.g. text mining).

Literature Review: Describe three (3) references that are relevant to your topic. Include details of how the data (or text) mining process is applied as well as relevant conclusion and benefits. Do a comparison of the analytical approaches where appropriate.

Body: The content here depends on the type of topic chosen. If your topic is of type (a) as specified in the Guideline 1 above, you can follow the content structure in Study Unit 5. If your topic is of type (b) or (c), you can use the CRISP-DM framework. It is strongly recommended that you find a small dataset (minimum of 100 rows of text for text mining and 250 rows of data for data mining) and for illustration (even if you have to mock up a dataset) of your topic so that what is written here is your contribution.

The report will be evaluated based on coverage of Introduction section (including adequate coverage of relevant Business Analytics concepts/issues), adequate review of the 3 references in the Literature Review section, soundness of your modelling steps (include illustrative example(s), use of relevant data (or text) mining techniques and correct interpretation of results), writing style (grammatically correct sentences and well developed flow of ideas) and presentation of report (apply APA referencing style, proper referencing of ideas and adherence to instructions regarding inclusion of certain sections, word count, font used, etc.).

Note - The number of words must be between 3,000 to 5,000 words (excluding cover page, reference and appendices). Use American Psychological Association (APA) referencing style.
