Assignment Two: The Parables of Luke 10-16.
First, read the passages designated as parables in Luke 10:1-16:18. Identify features with these parables that seem to be common to the genre of parable. In other words, what features in these passages make them identifiable as parables? This does not mean that all features must be present with all parables, but that you see certain things that typically show up with parables. This may include features within the parable itself as well as ways the author (in this case, Luke) introduces a parable into his narrative. Do NOT interpret the parables themselves, i.e., do not explain what the parables are saying. Rather, you are simply to observe and identify features typical of parables.
Second, read the account of "The Rich Man and Lazarus" in Luke 16:19-31. Based on the features you identified as typical of parables in the first part of this assignment, answer this question: is the account of "The Rich Man and Lazarus" a parable? Provide reasons for your conclusion. Then briefly discuss what difference it would make in the interpretation of this passage to identify it as a parable or not a parable
