Assignment - Pivot Tables Problem

For this project, you will prepare two PivotTables to address the questions posed by two different scenarios. You will create the PivotTables using 2018 detail for two of ABC Industries' trial balance accounts.

Scenario 1:

Certain sales employees at ABC Industries travel frequently and have regular lunches and dinners with clients to finalize details of current and further business. Although these activities are an important aspect of ABC Industries' sales retention and growth strategy, the company recognizes that employees may manipulate them. Based on comments they have overheard from several individuals, management at Leap Industries has begun to wonder about the nature of the activity within its Employee Meals while Traveling account for 2018. ABC Industries has engaged Firm Big Five to review its expenses within this account to assess the items by different regions and individuals to see if anyone is taking advantage of the company. You have been assigned the job of taking the account detail provided by ABC Industries' management and creating a Pivot Table that depicts the expenses.

Required: Prepare a Pivot Table utilizing the 2018 detail given for the account "Employee Meals while Traveling." All expenditures should be included in your Pivot Table. The different characteristics of each expenditure value - region, person and vendor - should be used to categorize the data in the Pivot Table. After creating an initial Pivot Table design, investigate the Pivot Table to determine the answer to ABC Industries' meals expense question. Format the Pivot Table so that the answer you identified is displayed on the face of the table, without a first-time viewer needing to manipulate the table to find it.

Finally, write a couple brief sentences beside the table explaining what you found to ABC Industries' management.

Scenario 2:

You are a manager with Firm Big Five. Recently, there has been some concern at ABC Industries regarding the expense reimbursements employees have been submitting. A staff in accounts payable reported to management that there has been an uptick in Employee Miscellaneous expense over the past year, and she mentioned that some of the expenses seem "abnormal." Management knows of no significant events or changes in employee responsibilities that would explain this change in activity. Management would like you to use your skills in data analytics to investigate these expenses.

Required: Prepare a Pivot Table utilizing the 2018 detail given for the account "Employee Miscellaneous Expenses." All expenditures should be included in your Pivot Table.
