Assignment: pH Scale Class Activity

Instructions

In this assignment, you and your classmates will enter the pH of different liquids of your choice in a table. The input of your item must be done before you answer the questions of the assignment.

You will then answer questions about the concepts underlying the rationale and use of the pH scale.

Choose a liquid and look up what the pH of the liquid is. It may be anything from the body, environment, food or beverage, industrial products, cleaning products or any other substance of your choosing.

You may not choose the same liquid as a classmate. If your first choice has already been used, please choose another liquid.

After you have added your entry, answer the following questions on a separate document and upload it to the assignment drop box titled "pH Scale Class Activity".

1. What was your liquid and what was it's pH?
2. Was your liquid acidic, neutral, or basic? What does that mean in terms of OH^- and H⁺ concentration?

Answer the following questions using your fellow student posts in the class google doc.

1. Name two liquids that were acidic and their approximate pH's. Name two that were basic and their approximate pH's.
2. What were the most neutral 2 or 3 liquids?
3. Do you notice any trends or can you make any generalizations about where certain types of liquids fall on the pH scale?
