Project Overview
You will research the historical attributes of a specific serial killer.
My serial killer is Donald Henry Gaskins.
Research Questions (you are welcome to add in more questions)
1. Childhood: Describe the serial killer's childhood and upbringing. Friends, schooling, family relationships? Are there specific events that may have contributed to committing crimes? Did the serial killer have or display any early indicators of a murderer: obsession to start fires, animal cruelty, or bed wetting at an unacceptable age.
2. Education: What is the highest level of education that he/she received? Did he/she graduate high school? Did he/she go to college?
3. Work: Give a description of their work history?
4. Relationships: Prior to the murders, did they have a healthy social life? Were they married with children? Did they live alone? Did they have many friends
5. Killings: Who were the victim/victims? Why were they selected and where and how did it happen? What was their motivation? What was the nature of the crimes (how did he/she kill the victims?) How many people did they admit to killing? What was the time span for their crimes?
6. Was the serial killer ever diagnosed with a mental disorder? If so, which one(s)? Did they ever receive treatment? How long were they in treatment?
7. Criminal profilers believe that many serial killers leave a signature at the crime scene. Did this particular serial killer have one? If so, do you know why they needed to do this?
8. How was he/she eventually captured? What specific evidence was used to lead to the arrest?
9. Did the serial killer eventually stand trial or did they take a plea bargain? Were they sentenced to life in prison or did they receive the death penalty? When were they scheduled to be executed and how?
10. ANALYSIS - Why did this individual become a serial killer? Use the biopsychosocial approach when analyzing your serial killer.
