Among the presented studies, | chose study 1, Assessing the impact of peers on the drug use of juveniles. For this study, | would use Self-reported data. This data type was selected over the other two, as this type allows collecting data on the experience of those directly being studied, in which would great! -id in understanding possible impacts/ influences. Within our class text, Research Methods for Criminal Justice and Criminology by Maxfield and Babbie, it states, "Crimes such as prostitution and drug abuse are excluded from victimization surveys and underestimated by police records of people arrested for these offensesz Public order crimes and delinquency are other examples. A third class of offenses that might be better counted by self-report surveys are crimes that are rarely reported to or observed by bolice."

(Maxfield, Babbie, 2018, pg. 154) As this topic of study falls within the category delinquency (in relation to substance abuse), and underrepresentation, the following citation helps to support how Self- reporting data may best work to understand the following impacts that those who . surround juveniles have on drug use, with producing the best results/data. Although this data type may best help to provide an insight on the impact of peers on the drug use of juveniles, there are notable shortcoming that come with this data source. Within our course lecture, it was discussed as to how this data source can surface concerns on whether or not individuals being surveyed are being entirely truthful, along with possibilities of individuals exaggerating their experience or rather overall refusing to provide their experiences.
