Consider the following measure description from the Method section of a published article, and answer the questions that follow.

Classroom goal structures were assessed using 16 items from the Patterns of Adaptative Learning Survey). Items were adapted by substituting the word "health" in place of the academic domain. This type of adaptation has been successfully implemented in prior research examining classroom goal structures in high school health classes. Mastery goal structure (α = 0.90) was assessed with six items (e.g. "Really understanding the material was the main goal"). Extrinsic goal structure (α = 0.77) was assessed with three items (e.g. "It was important to get high scores on tests"). Avoidance goal structure (α = 0.89) was assessed with five items (e.g. "It was important not to look dumb").
