Influence is the vehicle by which leaders exercise their power. Good leaders are mindful and strategic about how they influence others. They are influencers by motivating others to change, empowering individuals, and making things happen. You can enhance your influencing skills with the following tips:

Inspire others through a vision.
Focus on the specific behaviors you want to influence.
Align the behaviors that you want to influence with the person's values.
Use teaching as a strategy to influence behavior.
Spend time building your networks so that when you need support you have a coalition.
Learn from the effective influencing behavior of other leaders.
Use verbal persuasion, vivid examples, and stories to influence others.
Empower others by providing them with the resources they need to accomplish a task.

Experiment with a few of these influencing strategies. Keep a journal of your experiments and assess the effectiveness of these influencing strategies. Report on your findings about yourself.
