Assignment:
This exercise is designed to assess your analytic reasoning skills as well as how well, you mastered the concepts of how to prepare a properly formatted essay in correct manuscript style including proper pagination and side headings. You will lose considerable credit on this exercise unless you pay close attention to the stated directions. Those of you who submitted your term project drafts, especially the introduction and advertising analysis, are now well equipped to meet the challenges of Part I. In a four-paragraph analysis with proper side headings, pagination, and correct double-spaced manuscript format, choose two of the four advertisements found within the file, Advertisements for Final Examination, on the Main Course Page of Blackboard.
All four of these advertisements are targeted toward potential WCC transfer students. Each ad was taken from the June 2021 issue of Campus News, Volume 20, Issue 7, a publication circulated to each community college within the SUNY system. The format of your essay should follow the style required for your term project's body (specifically the introduction you submitted). Feel free to to the reviewed introduction your instructor returned to you in Blackboard. Your essay should contain 750 to 1,000 words.
Paragraph 1 should cover the basic characteristics and criteria found in effective print ads. It should end with a thesis statement identifying the ads and two criteria or characteristics that will be used for analysis in Paragraphs 2 and 3. Select characteristics or criteria broad enough to have enough substance for a well-developed analysis in Paragraphs 2 and 3.
However, your choices should not be too broad; otherwise, Paragraphs 2 and 3 will be unmanageable). You may want to investigate each college's website for additional perspective.
Paragraphs 2 and 3 should include an analytical discussion of how each advertisement measures up to the two selected criteria that are identified in your thesis statement.
Paragraph 4 will conclude the analytic discussion by stating which advertisement is more effective and WHY.
