[2] Double standards
Chris was working part-time in a retail shop selling collectible items. A brand-new figurine was released a few days back and had just arrived at the shop. Demand for it was high but despite the high demand, the officially advertised price was very reasonable. The owner, Mr Sem, however, had a system of differential pricing dependent on how he categorised or profiled his customers. Regular customers, for example, would be allowed to buy the figurine at a discount.
The day the new figurines arrived, Mr Sem WhatsApped Chris to give her his explicit permission to give discounts to customers she would somehow like or prefer over others. Additionally, he also told her where to find regular customers in the shop's database. If anyone of those showed up, she should sell the item at the discounted price. Chris, however, decided not to mention the discount at all and would just charge the normal price. When one of the regular customers complained to Mr Sem (behind her back), the owner asked Chris for an explanation. "Well," Chris said, "you want the business to make a profit, right?"
