The American economy grew dramatically between the end of the Civil War (1865) and the end of World War II (1945). During those 80 years the United States grew to be the largest and most powerful nation in the world. Government, includingthe executive, legislative and judicial branches, all played a role in the story. There are examples during this time period were government intervention in the economy was quite active and other times when it pulled back. Please assess examples of the American government's active role in "political economy" during this period.

Identify three specific examples of episodes where government created policy. You must assess at least one in a positive manner (it was a good thing) and at least one in a negative manner (maybe it wasn't such a good thing) In either case, clearly identify the event, analyze its consequences (short-term or long-term) and provide evidence in your response with data/information to support your assertion.
