A Benefits Package Designed for Whom?
Linda Baker, Simply Mechanical's HR recruiter greeted Susan Peters, her next interviewee, warmly.
Susan had an excellent academic record and appeared to be just the kind of person Simply Mechanical was seeking.
Linda had already interviewed 6 graduating seniors at St. Thomas University.
Based on the application, Susan appeared to be the most promising candidate to be interviewed that day.
She was 22 years old and had a 3.8 GPA with a 4.0 in her major field, industrial management. Not only was Susan the VP of the Student Government Association, but she was also activities chairman for Kappa Alpha Psi, a social fraternity. The reference letters in Susan's file revealed that she was both very active socially and a rather intense and serious student.
The HR recruiter (Linda) knew that benefits was an important part of the interview, but she did not know which aspects of Simply Mechanical's benefits would appeal most to Susan.
The company has an excellent profit-sharing plan, although 80 percent of profit distributions are deferred and included in each employee's retirement account. Health benefits are also good. It also has long-term care insurance.
