Question 1: How do post-911 security policies impact immigration and the status of new comers to Canada? Expand on how racial and cultural differences in Canada are treated by government and society at large, the role of fear in society, and whether Canadian society and government can be open/inclusive and secure at the same time.

Question 2: Calling a country a democracy does not mean every aspect of political life operates along democratic lines. To the contrary much of political and social life is governed through hierarchy and authority. Determine whether and how this condition is significant for the nature of power in a democracy; inclusion and exclusion of groups; the determination of policies; and the exercise of political rights.

Question 3: Is oligarchic rule by the wealthy, what some call plutocracy, inevitable in the United States, Canada and other capitalists states? Discuss - especially in terms of freedom, markets, control of knowledge, identity, and corruption - the processes by which a plutocracy comes to rule a democracy.
