Consumer Services and the impact of Covid 19.
Services marketing is generally considered to be more challenging than the marketing of physical goods due to the particular characteristics of services. This coursework examines whether the restrictions imposed by the Covid 19 Pandemic have changed these challenges, and how providers have responded.
You are required to analyse a service sector to compare and contrast the situation before Covid with the current situation during Covid, and to critically assess what changes may become a standard part of the service offering after Covid restrictions are removed. You must analyse the sector specifically allocated to you in a separate Excel spreadsheet - these will be consumerservice sectors familiar to students.
TASK
1. Briefly introduce a company in the sector allocated to you, and then interpret their service using Lovelock's classification (Service act and Recipient), and the 5 characteristics of services (intangibility, inseparability, perishability, variability, rental) - how have these characteristics changed during the Covid situation?
2. Apply the Servuction model andthe Interaction Matrix to the service exchange between provider and customer - what are the changes due to Covid?
3. Use the ‘blueprint approach' to compare and contrast service delivery - before Covidand during Covid.
4. Critically assess whether you consider that any of the changes in (3) above will persist once Covid restrictions are removed - and why?
Complete the task in an essay of word length 1200 words - FOUR sections of roughly equal length.
Parts 1, 2 and 3 require application of concepts from the Module - they could be partly based on diagrams but must have an accompanying commentary. Part 4 should discuss your personal view.
Make effective use of diagrams, tables and appendices. These are excluded from the word count.
Make sure that the work you submit is your own effort, and makes appropriate acknowledgement of sources you have used, formatted as BBS regulations.
