Choose one Newsela article about a famous poet and present a report about it. Then lead a class discussion about the poet and one of his/her poems. (20 minutes).

Step 1: Choose a Newsela article and register your poet below on the Google Doc. (First come first serve.)
Step 2: Read your article at whatever level you choose. Research extra information about your poet on the Internet.
Step 3: Find a poem by your poet. Study the poem and the language of the poem. Choose 5 key words (the most important ones) and decide why they are important in this poem.
Step 4: Create a PowerPoint presentation about the article and 5 discussion questions about the article and your poet. Include the poem and the 5 key words on your PowerPoint.
Step 5: Present your PowerPoint to the class. Explain the main ideas in the article. Present the poem on your PowerPoint. Read the poem aloud and explain what you think it means. Why are the 5 key words so important in this poem?
Step 6: Show the 5 discussion questions on your PowerPoint. Ask students to think about them and discuss.
