Imagine that you want to conduct an experiment to explore whether the speed a car is going affects participants' comfort with automated driving. Based on your review of the literature, you think people will be less comfortable with using automated driving features in their car when the car is going fast compared to when it is going slow. You have an automated driving simulator that you can use to make participants feel like they are in a car using automated driving, and you can vary the speed the car is going in the automated driving simulator.

Would it be feasible to conduct an experiment? Why or why not? Based on the description above, what would your hypothesis be?

Describe your variables, specifically:

What is your independent and what is your dependent variable? How would you operationally define both your independent and dependent variables? How many levels would your independent variable have?

Would you use a between- or within-subjects design? Why?

Tip: Make sure that your explanation demonstrates your understanding of between-subjects and within-subjects designs.
