Research Essay Assignment

You will take your argumentative essay and add academic research. You will use the same topic! This research essay will be 5 paragraphs in length (1 introduction, 3 body paragraphs, 1 conclusion). The research needs to be credible and from peer-reviewed sources.

Organizational Pattern: Argumentative research paper

Research: use a minimum of 3 sources, 2 need to be peer-reviewed sources as evidence to support your arguments

Thesis Statement: includes your argument and 3 parallel sub-points

Topic Sentences: based on 3 sub-points in thesis statement

Body Paragraphs: there are three, and they must be well developed, coherent, & unified

Grammar, Mechanics: all areas covered this semester will be graded

Writing Style: no contractions or 1st or 2nd person pronouns. Use objective (no "thing", "good", etc.), academic language (no slang, etc.)
APA Format:

• Title page (follow example in APA Student Guide)
• APA header and page #s on every page including title page and reference page
• Ensure accurate information and format for header
• Follow APA writing style
• Follow APA word processing details
• APA In-text Citations: include minimum of 2 quotations and 2 paraphrases
• Quotations & paraphrases should NOT exceed 20% of your paper
• Ensure citations follow accurate APA standards
• Do NOT include long quotations or string many quotations together
• Ensure the use of appropriate signal words (written in past tense) and weave the quotations into your own sentences
• Explain the relevance of the quotations/paraphrases in your paragraphs and how they support your main idea
• APA Reference Page: accurately list all sources used in your research paper
