Write a 5 pages argumentative essay about Standardized Testing, please use quotations, and write in both side of the problem. For example: compare weather it's fair for all of the students? Is it good for the students?

After you discuss all the subpoints give a final conclusion about weather the ideas of Standardized Testing is good or bad for the students.

Here are my ideas:

"Standardized tests have been a part of American education since the mid-1800s. Their use skyrocketed after 2002's No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) mandated annual testing in all 50 states. US students slipped from 18th in the world in math in 2000 to 31st place in 2009, with a similar decline in science and no change in reading." Failures in the education system have been blamed on rising poverty levels, teacher quality, tenure policies, and increasingly on the pervasive use of standardized tests. Proponents say standardized tests are a fair and objective measure of student achievement, that they ensure teachers and schools are accountable to taxpayers, and that the most relevant constituents approve of testing. Opponents say the tests are neither fair nor objective, that their use promotes a narrow curriculum and drill-like "teaching to the test," and that excessive testing undermines America's ability to produce innovators and critical thinkers.

Pros

• Standardized tests are reliable and objective measures of student achievement.

• Most of the students using standardized test found positive effect.
• non-discriminatory, because every student have the same test. (?)

• Easier for teachers to teach, because they know exact what to teach

Cons

• Not teaching knowledge but memorization.
• Discriminatory to students who have special needs and non English speakers.
• Can only test in small portion or knowledge.
• Can not test student's potential.
• Can not find out student's special talent.
• Not objective.
• Can not prepare students to be adults but test takers
• Students who bad at taking tests might lose opportunities, and stress about it.
