Problem: I believe what research-based evidence will reveal to be true is that assumptions may not have a definitive conclusion, after final data is analyzed. Sometimes our data tells us more studies need to be done because our hypothesis is too broad. Other times, the hypothesis is too narrow. Research is ongoing, and research often opens us up to the need for more research. First and foremost, starting out with a systematic method of collecting data is important because it will give credibility to our assumptions and research. Meta-analysis is the most comprehensive type of research study and thus garners the most respect when it comes to medical organizations and facilities seeking best practices. Randomized control trials (RCT's) are second only to meta-analysis and systematic review, and commands respect because there is a control group that is compared with another group with a variable that is manipulated. Are you receptive to research findings that do not agree with your assumptions? Explain. We should all be very receptive to research findings that do not agree with our assumptions, especially when that research is generalizable and replicable (Ellis, 2022).
