Select one New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) company appearing in newspapers such as The Wall Street Journal or on the Internet. Use the current stock market quotations to calculate the gain or loss that would result from a sale today if the share had been purchased at the current year’s low and high.

Now examine a few companies. Are you finding that gains or losses are roughly the same? Now consider the Dow Jones 30 companies. What are some of the similarities of the 30 companies? What leads up to a company being replaced on the list of 30?
