Question: One of the concerns that separated the Federalists ( those who supported the new Constitution and a stronger Federal Government) and the Anti-Federalists ( those who feared a too-powerful federal government at the expense of the states) was the question of the balance of power between the Federal (National) government and the state governments One of the things they feared most was tyranny--the unchecked power of a King, or potentially a president or national government. Is the federal government too powerful? Should states have more power? If so, what specific power(s) should states have? Are there some issues or some times when you need national unity -all the states must follow the same laws but on other things states can be different?
