The following letter to the editor appeared in the New York Times on Nov. 17, 2020. Does it establish a causal connection between the mass rallies held by then President Trump or does it merely show a correlation? To the Editor:

Over 130 Secret Service agents are now infected with the corona virus or banished to isolation because of President Trump's reckless, maskless, super spreader events. That's roughly 10 percent of its Uniformed Division. We know that the job of the Secret Service is to protect the president. What we don't know is who will protect the Secret Service from the president.
