Question: Recently, researchers and practitioners have been concerned that there is a 'fourth wave' of this epidemic where overdose deaths will be driven by psychostimulant drugs. Identify research and epidemiological evidence from credible sources and answer the following questions: What stimulant (or non-stimulant) drugs are associated with increasing overdose deaths right now in both the US and Nevada? Why do you think a non-opioid drug would be the source of the 4th wave of the opioid epidemic? (Hint: think about policy, regulation, intervention/treatment around opioids) Are there any "lessons learned" from the opioid epidemic that we should carry forward to address this fourth wave of the epidemic or future overdose epidemics?
