HR Managers This experiential assignment integrates strategic, ethical, and legal acumen in addressing a critical communication incident in an organization. You will demonstrate critical thinking, sound problem solving, and evidence-based decision making.
Case/Scenario
Dream Technology, a medium-sized firm located in Vancouver, BC, has been in business for over 10 years. It recently experienced rapid growth from 40 to 150 employees due to a market expansion seeking the key competencies offered by Dream's diverse and talented employees. The people practices have been guided by the COO, and payroll and legal advice are outsourced. You are the recently hired HR Manager. It has come to your attention that one of Dream's long-time and well-liked employees wrote racist comments in a personal blog post and identified Dream Technology as their employer.
Instructions
Part 1:
give an internal proposal for a company-wide communications policy addressed to the COO and CEO. The components are:
- Problem statement
Write a problem statement in which you identify and define the problem and the risk the problem poses to the organization: what happens if the problem is not addressed inside and outside the organization. You must show that you clearly understand the problem/situation if you are to convince the COO and CEO that you can solve it.
- Propose a solution
Propose a solution to the problem: a new communication policy. Briefly summarize what the policy is about, and how it is ethically and legally compliant.
- Benefits to the organization
Explain the proposed solution (the communication policy) will solve the problem and what tangible benefits will provide to the organization. Give specific examples showing the difference between "how things are now" and "how they could be". Be as realistic as possible and demonstrate an influential opinion.
- Costs benefit analysis
Are there any costs associated with implementing the policy? If there aren't any, then write "There are no costs associated with implementing this policy". You must highlight the benefits, both qualitative and-if any-quantitative.
