A central concern that we've taken up in this course is the nature of moral judgment. We've come across a number of different questions pertaining to this topic: Is moral judgment a faculty of reason or of emotion? Are moral judgments intrinsically motivat ing or not?

In this paper, I want you to expound your view of what moral judgments are and how they work, informed by materials from the class. I'd like you to structure your paper around a study question from Chapter 5 of the Tiberius textbook: The Stoi cs believed that someone who had attained moral perfection would not experience emotions like anger, fear or guilt. Are they missing something? Are there some emotions we would be better off without? (Tiberius 2014, p. 85).

In particular, I want to know what you think we should say about an emotionless agent's moral judgments. Would their judgments, now unfettered by biasing emotional influences, be perfectly accurate? Would their judgments, excised of their emotional core, no longer be genuine moral judg ments? Or would their moral judgments be no different than the rest of ours? Whichever thesis you choose to defend, make sure to give reasons for why your view is correct as well as for why the opposing views are wrong.
