As this is a core CTCH course that involves engagement with crucial theories and approaches to media and communication, you will be required to write and submit a major essay that demonstrates your ability to engage academically and critically with the course materials. You will choose a piece of media and a theory studied in the course so far. Your essay must apply the chosen theory to the media, and it must include at least 2 secondary sources in addition to your chosen theory.
Outline: You will submit an essay outline that clearly includes your thesis statement, your topic sentences, your selected quotations from your chosen theory, your selected quotations from your secondary sources and your Works Cited).
Draft I: You will incorporate the feedback provided on your outline to write a first draft of your essay. This must be a completed formal draft.
3. Final Copy with Edited Draft: You will incorporate the feedback provided on your Draft to create an Edited Draft and Final Copy. Using Track Changes on Word or Pages, you must document all edits you're making with the feedback included. Be as detailed as humanly possible. Introduction: A brief blurb indicating how I plan to begin my essay. This should indicate what I'll begin with, which media and theory I've chosen to discuss and how I'll funnel it down to the thesis statement, and it should give a brief preview of my topic sentence points.
Thesis Statement: Here, I'll include the thesis statement which should be a 2-4 sentence statement that clearly indicates what the argument of the essay is. It should not be an obvious argument. Instead, it should bring about new ideas and perspectives. This would be a great place to use the phrase "I argue..." because that might help you to stay on an argumentative track.
