Suppose that you have just started as a new project manager for a nationwide non-profit. The company has put you in charge of revamping the annual fundraiser by using some project management techniques and cross-functional teams. You now have to create presentation to justify your use of cross-functional teams.

As the new project manager in charge of the annual fundraiser, using a cross-functional team would be of great value. Using a cross-functional team would bring different areas of expertise together and provide a variety of expert advice from different professional areas. Using staff from marketing, sales, and even human resources would be the route I would go. Having people from each of these departments would allow for for the fundraiser to have an outcome greater than what it would be with someone from just one of those departments. Having these members work together as a team would allow for the marketing team to provide their expert opinion on how to advertise the fundraiser, sales would be able to provide their knowledge of different areas to project at the fundraiser to obtain the greatest outlook, and human resources would be able to provide their knowledge in areas that would allow for the proper oversight of the fundraiser and providing the proper staff to work it. With all of these departments working together the outcome will come together quicker and in a more professional manner.

Do you agree with the topics they discussed and the what attributes they chose? Why or why not? If their method is different from yours, why do you think you used a different approach to cross-functional teams?
