Lonsdale neighborhood is an urban neighborhood in the city of Knoxville, Tennessee that is primarily comprised of Guatemalan immigrants, African Americans, and African refugees. Some of the challenges experienced by residents in the neighborhood include historical racism, lack of grocery stores nearby, community violence, lack of public transportation, lack of trees and green space, and air pollution from surrounding industries. Lonsdale also has many institutions and community agencies including (but are not limited to) Lonsdale Elementary Community School, Sam E. Hill Primary School, Lonsdale Recreation Center, the Lonsdale Neighborhood Association, the Lonsdale Market, Light Up Lonsdale, Thrive, and several church or faith-based groups.
