Assessment Task:

This task is based on the following:

rouin-Chartier Jean-Philippe, Chen Siyu, Li Yanping, Schwab Amanda L, Stampfer Meir J, Sacks Frank M et al. Egg consumption and risk of cardiovascular disease: three large prospective US cohort studies, systematic review, and updated meta-analysis

Write a critical analysis of the study considering:

i) Evidence of causation in relation to the study question, using principles of causal inference. For this part of the question you may draw on the whole paper

ii) How far the study has eliminated chance, bias and confounding and relate this to the study design type. For this part of the question please only consider the prospective cohort study element

You should conclude with recommendations which may include:
- Recommendations with regard to how far public health action should be informed on the basis of this study
- Recommendations with regard to what further information is needed

Referencing should be Harvard style and it would be appropriate to reference any frameworks and methodological texts you use. This is largely a practical task based on a single study, therefore wider references may be used to support your points, but only as feasible within the indicative word count. The presentation should be legible and clear, but the style may be adapted from traditional essay style to reflect that this is a practical task e.g. by using tables, bullet-pointed lists of statements etc to summarise key points.
