Agency Research Project
Each student will identify an area to be researched at his or her field agency that will provide the agency with data in a pertinent area of service delivery. Working with the field instructor and other agency staff, identify an area to study and develop an instrument that will allow data to be collected to address the agency need. Consult with your course professor on the development of the instrument and submit a draft, along with proposed implementation procedures, in a proposal to the course professor for approval ("Research Project Instrument and Implementation Procedures Draft").
Once the approach is approved by the course professor, implement the data collection procedures and collect the data. During data collection the student must submit a plan to the course professor outlining how the data will be analyzed ("Data Analysis Plan Draft") that will include proposed statistics and analysis methods for each part of the instrument. The course professor will act as a consultant to the student in the development of the data analysis plan.
The data analysis is carried out once the data is collected. Results are described and a discussion of the outcomes, conclusions, and implications of the project are combined into a 5-6 page paper which is submitted to the course professor and to the agency as the finished assignment. Students will be provided with additional information on the preparation of a manuscript in class and on Moodle.
Lastly, the student will arrange a presentation with his/her field instructor, task supervisor, and other interested agency personnel to present the project and the results. The final research paper is to be word processed, edited, and in the pristine APA format. The completed agency research project is worth 120 points.
