Assessment task: Report
Aim: This assignment task is designed to support the development of your knowledge and skills in child and family assessment. It enables you to consider a case study and undertake an assessment, applying a commonly used assessment tool. It requires you to draw on relevant unit knowledge and evidence from case study, and write a professional report. These are all essential components of practice.
The case study for this assessment task is a short film called 'Polly & Me', which is located on the issues of Protection Blackboard site. This is a case study/story of a hypothetical family, in an Australian environment, where child protection and family violence issues are present.
Task:
Part 1. Read the background information and then watch the short film Polly & Me, both found on the Issues of Protection Blackboard site.
Part 2. Apply and complete the Strengths and Stressors Ver. 2 (Berry, 2009) assessment tool for this case study/story. This tool is found on the Issues of Protection.
Part 3. Drawing on the Polly & Me case study/story, and the completed assessment tool, complete a 2000-word Family Assessment Report. Your report must include:
• Only evidence/information contained in the Polly & Me case study/story and the background information (do not embellish or add information).
• An evidence-based assessment of the strength and stressor factors present for this family, including the relevant child maltreatment issues.
• An evidence-based analysis of the family's overall wellbeing, including the risk and protective factors evident in the family.
• Relevant information presented in this unit and through wider reading, including ecological systems theory and strengths-based practice.
• Research evidence to demonstrate that your assessment is informed by theory, research and concepts covered in the unit.
