Question

In a large, well-known retail chain, a recruitment team always aimed to get at least 300 applications for their internship position. However, due to the large volume, one recruiter took an average of 20 seconds to familiarize themselves with each CV, glancing through the first half, and completely skipped a portion of applicants due to time constraints. On the other hand, the recruiting dashboard showed excellent results in this vacancy.

Why is it not worth focusing on the number of applicants only?
