Assessment - Case Study Report

Aim: The aim of this assessment is for you to demonstrate your knowledge and application of concepts of a range of topics regarding wellbeing that have been presented in this course. You will do this to demonstrate how various aspects of peoples' lives influence their overall wellbeing. You will then develop a plan to assist these individuals (via the case studies presented below) to assist in the development of their sense of wellbeing.

Overview: You are working in a Health and Physical Education role and work with a range of people. A part of your role is to educate others about the need to maintain a positive sense of wellbeing and the specific actions people can undertake to improve their wellbeing.

You will be provided with 3 case studies/scenarios and will need to produce a report for TWO ‘case studies' which evaluates the factors described, and their influence on the development of their wellbeing. Your report for each case study should include the following sections and refer to relevant and credible academic sources and guidelines to support your arguments.

1. Introduction - Client Summary (~100 words)
- This section should include a summary of the person in the case study, and the key issues/problems reported by them.

2. Contextual Lifestyle Factors Applicable to the Case Study (~400 words)
- Using the information presented in the case study, identify and discuss a range of contextual factors that may be impacting the person's development of wellbeing.
- Consider the various domains of wellbeing that are being impacted by their current lifestyle and the possible implications for their overall health and wellbeing.
- References to support the potential impact of these constraints are needed.

3. Current Guidelines and Strategies to Improve Wellbeing (~500 words)
- Considering the individual's needs and lifestyle factors, identify a range of strategies (actionable steps) the individual could undertake to improve their sense of wellbeing.
- These strategies should be aligned to any relevant guidelines (i.e. National Physical Activity Guidelines, sleeping recommendations, etc.).
- Discuss your choices and explain why they are relevant to the individual. How will these steps improve the individual's sense of wellbeing?
- You are advocating for this plan and attempting to convince them that it is meaningful and important to their wellbeing.
- There must be clear evidence and research displayed to support the information in your presentation.

4. Referencing
- Adopt correct referencing style (Harvard UniSA) in text and to construct reference list.

Case Study 1: Serena
"Hi, I'm Serena. I come from a small town in Adelaide and just started my first year at a big University in Melbourne. It's my first time living away from home, and it's been a struggle. My boyfriend and my friends are still in Adelaide. My family has sacrificed a lot for me to be here. I probably shouldn't have taken on so many classes for my first semester. I'm hitting the books, but I can't seem to catch up. I'm sleeping only four hours per night and I'm tired all the time, feel like crying much of the time, and don't know how to get out of this slump. I don't have any friends yet because I don't take time to socialise. Several women in my University accommodation have already withdrawn from their studies. I feel like my life is out of control. What can I do?"

Case Study 2: Cory
"Hi, I'm Cory. I'm a second year University student majoring in Biology. I'm from Western Australia and just transferred Universities to be closer to my dad, who lives alone and has diabetes. I take 5 classes, I work part time as a lab assistant, and I'm up late every night studying so that I can keep up my grades for applying to medical school. I've always been able to work under pressure, but I have to admit, these past few months have been rough. I am constantly worn out, worried about my dad, and I can barely stay awake in class sometimes. I know that medical school will be even harder, so maybe I should just get used to living like this. But I am so tired of feeling dragged out."

Case Study 3: Nick
"Hi, I'm Nick. I'm a year 11 student at a low-socioeconomic Government high school in the outer suburbs of Adelaide. Both of my parents passed away when I was younger and so I have been living with my auntie and uncle - which has been quite the experience! I've been focussing on my schoolwork and have been playing quite a bit of soccer just to keep my mind active because I have been coping with anxiety and depression since the passing of my parents. Despite my auntie and uncle's best efforts, I often forget to eat or when I do, it is usually fast food that I get on the way home from school. I only have one close friend and this relationship has been strained for the past 6 months because he recently met a new girlfriend and has been spending most of his time with her. Being physically active has helped with managing my anxiety but I still suffer from the occasional panic attack where I feel paralysed and don't want to leave my room for extended periods of time. I try and hide this from my auntie and uncle because they already have enough on their plate. I'm just at the cross-roads with what to do."
