1. Anthropologists have studied the idea that human beings can create communities that are sustainable, equitable, and resilient by observing, following, and respecting patterns in nature. In the book, Mexican Americans and the Environment, Peña (Chapter 2) describes this as cases wherein "humans are acting as the keystone species".
