ANT 2295 Anthropology of Gender - Lethbridge College

You are to write a research paper exploring a topic related to the content covered in this course.

The overall objective for the research paper is to apply the anthropological perspective by integrating key terms, concepts and theories to your topic.

Most research papers contain the following information or sections: intro, thesis statement, body and conclusion. Anthropologists purpose to transform their writing (through the use of some strategies presented below) to reflect the non-linear nature of cultures they study.

1. Entering a Conversation the goal of the writer is not to just introduce the topic and thesis statement, but to introduce the audience to the intellectual conversations and various contributions made throughout the paper.

2. Borrowing and Extending the writer must be willing to include key terms and concepts from other courses (e.g. Sociology and Psychology).

3. Establishing Authority the writer must find a way to establish their authority by reflecting on personal field experiences, using previous research or referring to another expert in the fiel

4. Countering the ability to counter is reflective of a writer's skill to critique, not criticize, by expanding on weaknesses of the previous research or previous understanding on the top

5. Stepping Back is a metaphorical action done with the mind; to reveal this in writing is to capture a more complete, holistic perspective.
