The Treasure Valley Dog Shelter would like to implement a database and has provided the following details of their operations:
There are several shelter branches throughout the Boise area. For each branch, they want to record the name of the branch, the branch phone number, and address. The address is a composite attribute made up of street, city, state and zip code.
Employees can work at a single branch. Each branch has multiple employees.
Employees has an ID, name (first and last) and phone number
Donors may donate to multiple branches. Each branch has multiple donors. When a donor gives to a branch, the donation type, donation value and date are recorded. Donors have an ID, phone number and email address
Each branch shelters many dogs. A dog is housed at a single branch.
Each dog is given a unique ID. The intake date and reason are tracked. The shelter also records vaccinations (there may be several) that they give to the dog. The breed or breeds of the dog are also kept in the database. They would also like to record whether the dog is spayed or neutered.
Sometimes female dogs enter the shelter while they are pregnant. If the dog has offspring at the shelter, the shelter wants to record which dogs are parents of which other dogs.
The goal of the shelter is for the dogs to be adopted. A dog can be adopted by a client from a branch (this is a ternary relationship). All branches have adoptions and all clients have adopted at least one dog. Unfortunately, not all adoptions work out,so some dogs have been adopted more than once. When a client adopts a dog from a branch, the date is recorded.
The shelter will assign an unique ID to the clients. The client’s first and last name, phone and email are also recorded, along with whether the client owns or rents their home.
