Using relevant theories and models critically evaluate and analyse the leadership of a 21st century business leader (must be an Australian or American leader). If you were in the position of the leader, what could you do to be a better leader and make a stronger impact on the followers and on situation/s?

For this assignment you can select a leader from a large or a small organisation. It could be a CEO of an international organisation whom you have read about in the newspapers/biographies, or a family member who runs a small business with a few staff members.

The choice of leader is yours.

In your assignment you should cover the following:

· A clear description of the leader, the organisation/industry, and situation(s)/context(s);

· An evaluation of the leader by referring to concepts and theories covered in the subject (e.g. style, behaviour, traits, attitudes, power) and by referring to relevant examples and mini-cases in the textbook (where appropriate) and the (topic notes and readings attached);

· A discussion of how you would lead differently if you were put in the same situation/s as the leader and how you could make a stronger impact on the followers and on the situation/s.

Please remember that pure description and paraphrasing is not sufficient. A good assignment will clearly take an analytical approach and will demonstrate application of leadership concepts/theories.

Important Instructions:

1. Assignments must contain proper citations and referencing using the Harvard style, that is:

a) citations (or in-text references) of quoted and paraphrased materials to support your arguments/comments, and
b) a reference list relating specifically to your in-text references (see the prescribed textbook and preferred references list below that should be used for this assignment)

2. Assignments of this nature normally contain between 11 and 12 relevant references from different sources in the reference list (see preferred reference lists below).

3. All references must be from credible sources. References should be sourced from the following:

· The Prescribed Text Book should be referenced largely in this assignment (see textbook details below)

· You are encouraged to make use of the AIB online library which can be accessed through the AIB website (see Online Library User Guide below in the next section).

· Other references from the topic notes and articles attached should also be used.

4. Assignments are checked with anti-plagiarism software. Please carefully check your assignments before final submission to ensure that all quoted and paraphrased materials are properly cited and referenced.

5. The total number of words should not exceed 2500 words (excluding your cover page, an executive summary, table of contents, list of references or appendices.) You may place any supporting material that exceeds this word limit in the appendices. However, a reader should not have to look at an appendix to determine the main thrust of the points you are making in your assignment. So make sure all your main points are in the body of your assignment and refer to the appendices that will support the points you are making.
