Splendid Teas company has successfully moved into selling their teas on the Internet. They now have thousands of loyal customers all across North America who are drawn to the quality of their specialty teas. Owner Alice Tang has now retired and her daughter Carolyn has taken over the company. Carolyn is happy with the online success of the company but the sudden rise in the number of customers has been too much for their current computer system. She has hired several experienced knowledge workers to help her with this and they have decided the best thing to do is to build a new company-wide information system. Splendid Teas has their own in-house IT specialists but they are quite young and inexperienced. Carolyn has decided to hire you to advise her. You are a business expert and a knowledge worker and you have studied Busi 237. You talk to the knowledge workers and you are very impressed by their experience. The IT specialists however are young and eager but have never worked on an information system this big. You explain to the IT specialists how they need to work with the knowledge workers very closely before they start developing the system. A few months later Carolyn tells you that the knowledge workers are unhappy that the IT specialists have moved onto developing the system without dealing with their issues. Carolyn is very unhappy with the situation and wants to cancel the project. You ensure Carolyn that this is something that can be fixed but will take time. You explain to the IT specialists where they went wrong and you advise them to restart system development by going back to analyzing the end user requests and working carefully with the knowledge workers each step of the way. explain what you will say to Carolyn.
