Media resources are an excellent source for content analysis. Select a NEWS report from an online (reputable) news website, online (reputable) newspaper, or news magazine on an important social problem (use one of the following):
Poverty, Homelessness, prostitution, sex slavery, unemployment, illegal immigration, crime, or discrimination.
This article should not be any form of entertainment news, sports, commentary, OPed (opinion editorial) pieces or blogs, journal articles, website commentary, etc. Use a news article. If you are not sure if the article is a news article, contact me.
Distinguish between "facts" as set forth by the author and "opinions" of the author (discuss this). Analyze why the journalist believes the topic is newsworthy. Finally, compare the article with how a sociologist (using ONE of the three major theoretical perspectives - functionalism, conflict theory, symbolic interactionism) might examine the social problem discussed in the article.
Please give access to the source (either give me the link in your document or scan in the article).
