For this assignment, you will observe in-person emotion management as you go about your daily life. What emotion management do you and others do on any given day? How does it vary by situation? Identify at least one pattern and analyze two examples in depth to demonstrate your understanding of emotion management theory and related concepts.

Begin your report with a paragraph that introduces the most interesting/significant pattern(s) you observed and introduces the two examples you analyze in depth.

After that introductory paragraph, spend the rest of the report analyzing your two examples in detail. Be sure to describe the interactional contexts in which each occurs, including the feeling rules of the space. Utilize concepts from Hochschild for each example: feeling rules; the "pinch"; evocation/suppression; cognitive, bodily, and expressive techniques; deep acting/surface acting. In addition, you may also use concepts from the following: Cahill and Eggleston, Smith and Kleinman, Francis, and Katz.

In the concluding paragraph, compare your two examples, situate them within the larger pattern(s) you observed, and reflect on what you learned, including your experience of emotion management.

This field study report should be 2 to 3 pages long when formatted correctly.
