INTRODUCTION:

In the poems, "The Twenty-Psalm," and "Batter my heart, three-personed god" the speakers both love god and see him as omnipotent. The speaker in "batter my heart, three-personed god" needs god to break him like "glass" and pleads for god to make him a new man, he expresses this plead through the usage of visual imagery and a desperrate tone. However, in the poem "The Twenty-Third Psalm" the speaker sees god as the almighty and ultimate protector and provider through the usage of metaphor. both speakers convey their reliance on god through the usage of metaphors.
