Assignment:

Deviant behavior in sport includes problems such as violence, hazing, performance-enhancing drugs, and eating disorders. The dominant sporting ethic of "win at all costs" often fosters and reinforces these forms of deviance. In fact, some of these behaviors have been termed "positive deviance" due to the fact they are so commonplace, and even expected, in sport. Compare and contrast how the functionalist and critical theorists would analyze the phenomenon of deviance in sport; that is, what do they have in common and how are they different in their thinking.
